In January 2007, FPL demonstrated its commitment to developing renewable energy resources, having purchased over 1.5 million MWh from renewable sources in 2005. The company's Sunshine Energy program and Demand-Side Management initiatives are nationally recognized for their effectiveness. With a dedicated team exploring opportunities in solar, biomass, waste-to-energy, and ocean current energy, Florida ranks 13th in the U.S. for renewable generation.
