Foundation Year Field Practicum Orientation /Refresher Meeting Note Refresher Meeting Note: Students were notified of the MSW I Foundation Year Course requirements by the: a. “Incoming MSW Student Registration and Information materials for Fall 2010” when you were first accepted into the MSW program (March –May 2011); b. SDSU SSW Graduate Student Handbook – latest edition; c. SDSU Graduate Bulletin 2012 - 2013; d. SDSU SSW Web site > Field Education web pages > http://socialwork.sdsu.edu/field
Field Education at SSW • Two, academic year-long (Fall & Spring semesters) field practicums. • Foundation yr: Generalist • Advanced: Concentration specific • 15 units total in MSW program (1/4 of program is Field) • Concurrent Model: • Must be in co-requisite practice courses when in field • Significant time commitment: • Foundation Yr. – 16 hours per week in practicum + field orientation and seminars • Credit / No Credit / RP grading in course: • Evaluated according to competencies achieved (in practicum & seminars) • Competencies based on curriculum – field learning objectives (& EPAS standards)

Foundation Year Field Practicum Process Timeline – Fall 2011 Dates to Live By: • Placement Orientation Meeting – February 16th, 2012 • Placement Planning Application Form & materials – Available on web site NOW • MSW I Application Deadline – Monday February 27th, 2012, 4:30 pm • Using Internship at Employment Site Application materials • 4/2/12 – Final materials due • Course Registration for SW 650 Section - Field Seminar Assignments (in June 2012 by email) • Field Practicum Orientation Seminar – a “must” – • tentative date 8/21/12 1pm-3:30 pm • First Week of school in field seminar time • Field and Classes Begin for 2012 fall semester - Monday, August 27, 2012

SW 650 Internship Course Curriculum Requirements – Field Practicum and Practicum Seminars • SW 650 – Master & Supplemental Syllabi • Field Begins – Field Orientation Seminar & 1st week of classes • 10 hrs. in agency during first two weeks • 16 hrs. per week beginning Week 3 • Field Seminars – Skill application, integration of course work and internship • Practicum Internship • Micro, Mezzo, Macro requirements • Field Instructors & Supervision • Field Faculty
