  3. Mandates • Formulate strategies, policies, plans, programs and projects for aquatic resources R&D • Program and allocate government and external funds for R&D • Monitor R&D programs and projects • Generate external funds

  4. Major R&D Programs

  5. Integrated Coastal Resources • focuses on the management and conservation of the country’s marine coastal resources • promotes the development and transfer of technologies that will improve the livelihood of small fisherfolk

  6. Aquaculture R&D • focuses on priority species such as seaweeds, prawn, milkfish and tilapia to increase exports and meet local needs • genetic improvement of cultured species and dissemination of improved strains

  7. Marine Science and Biotechnology • rehabilitation of degraded marine ecosystems • develop new marine products

  9. National Aquatic Resources Research and Development System • nationwide network of institutions to avoid duplication of R&D work and fully harness human, financial and infrastructure resources

  11. Human Resources Development • graduate research fellowship (MS/PhD) • thesis and dissertation assistance
