  2. Use your list or chapter Benchmark review sheet to find the benchmarks • These will be used to help you prepare for the EOC and check your level of understanding of the material covered in class.

  3. Basic Directions • Write the benchmark on your paper 1 point • Figure out what the benchmark is asking and break it into sections. Try to reword it into simple questions. Look at your benchmark review sheet to get ideas. There are usually questions under each benchmark to help guide you to better understand each one. Ask, if you still don’t understand! Discuss it with a classmate! Usually we will do this in class together!

  4. Review over the grading scale I give you to determine just how many points each benchmark is worth to help you determine how much time and effort should go into your answer. • Write out your answer to what the benchmark is asking you to know. This is like an open notes test on your level of understanding of the material I have covered in class. You can look things up anywhere you want. Your answer is graded on its accuracy and completeness so do a good job! The point value is determined by the benchmark.

  5. Level of understanding • Write about your level of understanding of this material. Did you completely get this? Did you have to look everything up but now get it? Do you still not understand any of it? Do NOT give me a number for your level of understanding, use words to describe and explain this. This part is very important to me to help me know if I need to spend more time in class reviewing or explaining a topic. This is worth 1 point

  6. When you get yours back… • If you did not do well on the benchmark, make changes to yours when we review over it so you have the correct information to study for the chapter test and the EOC. • Add the returned and graded reflection along with the benchmark review sheet to your review notebook for the EOC after you get back the current graded chapter notebook. This notebook will be used for your semester exam review and again for the end of course exam • These will count as test grades!

  7. Chapter 1 • For chapter 1 we will not write a reflection but I would like you to check off the benchmarks that you feel you understand and make a list of the ones you do NOT understand and turn them in to me! • Just use the letter and numbers following the SC 912

  9. Chapter 6

  10. SC.912.L.18.1 Describe the basic molecular structures and primary functions of the four major categories of biological macromolecules. • Structures: 1 point each for 4 points total • Functions: 1 point each for 4 points total • Carbohydrates, Proteins, Lipids and Nucleic Acids • Total of 8 points

  11. SC.912.L.18.11 Explain the role of enzymes as catalysts that lower the activation energy of biochemical reactions. • 1 point • Identify factors, such as pH and temperature, and their effect on enzyme activity. • Explain what each of these do to enzymes • 2 points

  12. SC.912.L.18.12 Discuss the special properties of water that contribute to Earth's suitability as an environment for life: cohesive behavior, ability to moderate temperature, expansion upon freezing, and versatility as a solvent. • There are 4 factors listed that you need to discuss, each is worth 1 point • Total 4 points
