  1. Posterior Composite Restorations Joseph W. Parkinson, D.D.S.

  2. Silorane Composites • Posterior Use Only Due To : • Low Opacity • Limited Shade Selection • Incompatibility with Methacrylate-Based Composites and Bonding Systems

  3. Curing Lights • Plasma Arc Curing Devices • Quartz-Tungsten-Halogen Light Curing Lights • Light-Emitting Diode Curing Units • Laser

  4. Plasma Arc Curing Devices • Deeper cure in shorter time • Damage to pulp, composite, margins? • Hardness after cure?

  5. Plasma Arc Curing Devices • Less curing time-less contamination-3 seconds • Heat production • High Initial Cost • High Maintenance Cost-lamps • Large size

  6. Laser • Fast curing times • Shrinkage, brittleness, marginal leakage • Expensive • Heat generated

  7. Quartz-Tungsten-Halogen Light Curing Lights • Reasonable size and Cost • High amount of heat generated • Bulb degeneration-incomplete cure of composite

  8. Light-Emitting Diode Curing Lights • Less heat than QTH • Ergonomic handling • Minimal maintenance • New technology • Longer curing time than PAC • Batteries must be recharged • Cost more than conventional halogen lights
