Energy efficiency – why bother? • Residents’ wellbeing – key priority, but thermal comfort is getting more expensive to achieve • Increased cost (energy prices and taxes) • Traditionally poorly managed, so lots of scope for savings • Legislation/ consumer driven need to measure and reduce your carbon footprint

  5. Energy efficiency: a bottom line saving • A company makes a £13,500 bottom line saving. If the company has a 8% profit margin, what percentage increase in turnover would be needed to achieve the same £13,500 bottom line benefit? • Answer = £168,750 = How many beds in your home?

Heating system - controls • Hot water temperatures – too hot? • Avoid overheating - every 1°C of overheating increases your heating bill by 8% • Zonal heating – only heat where it’s needed • Correctly positioned thermostats • Optimisers • TRVs – are they working for you? • Maintenance for efficiency
