Columbus and the Taino • Who was Christopher Columbus • What was his purpose for exploring? • What does Expedition mean? • Explorer from Spain • Wanted to find a better way to reach the Indies-part of Asia filled with gold, spices, and other goods • At the time only had the Silk Road • It’s a journey made for a special purpose

  5. Christopher Columbus • What did he name his 3 famous boats? • What did he find? • Nina, Pinta, Sana Maria • Believed to have found The Bahama Islands, but he thought he landed in the Indies so he called the Taino “Indians”

  6. The Columbian Exchange • What was the purpose for his next expedition? • Colony • To start a colony that would bring back profits to Spain • Is a settlement far from the country that rules it • Before long, 1000’s of colonies throuout the West Indies
