  5. MPLS MPLS Technology Multi Protocol Label Switching Technology promises faster switching with added benefits to Operator and customers. This technology replaces traditional IP routing by forwarding the IP packets much in a much faster and efficient manner. MPLS Technology enables service provider to use common infrastructure for different technologies and services keeping the security intact. MPLS technology gives network operators a great deal of flexibility to divert and route traffic on alternate paths duing the event of link failures, congestion and other bottlenecks and enables seamless services at all point of time to the EB customers. 6. MPLS MPLS Technology • EDGE • Provider Edge Router • Connect to: Core routers on one side and Customer IP Networks( on Customer Edger routers) • CORE • Provider Router • Connect to: Core routers on one side and PE routers on another side. Each PE is minimum Dual Parented • Gate Way • BSNL is having 9 Gate Way Chain routers located in 6 places. One side Core and other side IBP, Peering links including NIXI. Best in class technology routers are Deployed in BSNL and AMC&OEM support is ensured at the procurement stage itself. As a continuous process Tech refresh is done on all the MPLS devices to keep them up to date and ensures latest services are available to Customers. SOUTHERN TELECOM REGION

  7. MPLS MPLS Technology (Protocols) • OSPF(Open Shortest Path First): • Used within the MPLS cloud. • To auto-discover all other Core and Edge routers. • Re-routes traffic in case of failure of any link. • LDP(Label Distribution Protocol): • The protocol that facilitates exchange of label information. • RSVP(Resource ReSerVationProtocol): • The protocol that allows for the use of Traffic Engineering • Also used to exchange labels. • BGP (Border Gateway Protocol): • The protocol that exchanges customer routes • Of special significance in L3 VPN • Supports the configuration of VPN through • route-distinguisher RD and route-target RT • Also facilitates exchange of labels SOUTHERN TELECOM REGION

  13. MPLS Strength MPLS • All India MPLS NOC is situated at Bangalore and DR NOC is located at Pune. Proactive Monitoring and Corrective Actions including provisioning of Circuits are done from Bangalore NOC. Our Strength:- CORE ROUTERS 46 Core routers are deployed at 39 Locations, 9 IGW+ 9IGWPE Gate Way Routers deployed at 6 Locations. EDGE ROUTERS 218 EDGE routers are deployed at 109 locations across India. Another 232 routers of MNGT EDGE are getting deployed(154 commissioned) Back Bone Links 740 Back Bone Links are commissioned, These are basically(152) TEN G, (507)STM-16 and (81)GE links connecting MPLS routers.. Internet Bandwidth • 707Gbps Internet Bandwidth is available to BSNL customers. • [Google 190 , Akamai 140 , International bandwidth 335, Others 42 ] Customer Links 1,16,769 Links are provisioned and working in BSNL. [Customer Links = 1,13,404, Service Links =3365]. SOUTHERN TELECOM REGION

  14. MPLS MPLS Services Offered to Customers • VPN Band widths: • BSNL is capable of providing on MPLS VPN ckts of speeds from 64kbps to 10Gbps. The PE-CE link is built up on MLLN (for up to 2Mbps on copper) or on transmission network (for more than 2Mbps using transmission systems on fiber). • Multiple VPNs: The MPLS VPN service of BSNL can be extended over different last mile technologies. The primary method is directly connecting from PE to CE using the methods specified above. In addition to this, we can enter into the MPLS VPN using other access networks of BSNL viz. broadband (ADSL last-mile/FTTH last mile) (BB VPN/FTTH VPN), CDMA (wireless last-mile) CDMA VPN, GSM (wireless last-mile) 3G VPN. The customer's DC which is available on MPLS VPN can be securely accessed through the above types of VPN.  SOUTHERN TELECOM REGION

  15. MPLS MPLS Services Offered to Customers • Quality of Service: The QoS feature of MPLS networks ensures a measure of guarantee in packet delivery. In case of choked links, packets are dropped/lost. In networks without QoS, the packets will not have any priority and all packets are equally liable to be dropped. With QoS implemented, different priorities are assigned so that packets with lower priority are dropped first. The order of priority in BSNL MPLS network is as below:- • MANAGE - Reserved for Protocol traffic • PLATINUM - Reserved for Voice • GOLD - Highest priority - Open for commercial MPLS VPN • SILVER - Medium priority - Open for commercial MPLS VPN • BRONZE - Low priority - Open for commercial MPLS VPN • BEST-EFFORT - Lowest priority - for Internet traffic SOUTHERN TELECOM REGION

  16. MPLS MPLS Services Offered to Customers • IP Retention: The main advantage of MPLS VPN networks is that multiple customers can ride over the same network with over-lapping IP addresses. As long as it is in different VPNs, the same IP address can be used by different customers. This feature offers a lot of flexibility to both the service provider and the customer. Customers can have their own private IP and MPLS enables VPNs for them. • Multicast Services:Multicast is an IP routing technology that facilitates one to many communication. It is more efficient than broadcast. Multicast VPN is a service available in BSNL MPLS VPN and is provided free-of-cost on request of customer. Typical uses of this feature are - stock trading, video conferencing and content delivery. Packets are multiplied by PE router and sent to destinations. SOUTHERN TELECOM REGION
