  3. Resources • 51 staff with over 40 Inspectors • Heavy Vehicle Checking Station – Marulan • Conduct HVIS inspections at 46 sites • Approx 40 ORE sites • 3 Vehicle Inspection Trailers and 5 fixed Roller Brake Testers

  4. - 2008 Statisticsas at end of April 08 ORE – approx 14,700 vehicles intercepted – over 23,000 registered units – Almost 112,000 inspection checks conducted. HVIS – – approx 8,000 inspections HVCS – approx 33,500 vehicles intercepted – over 23,000 registered units – approx 850,000 vehicles screened

Initiatives Region Wide Risk Based Assessment of ORE Sites • Identify the nature of heavy vehicle movements within/through the Region • Identify the specific risks to be addressed by ORE • Confirm site location/suitability to enable the risks to be targeted through appropriate ORE • It is expected to lead to improved targeting of ORE operations.

  6. Local Issues • In 2006 - 07 there was a 27% increase in trade through Eden Port – 1.3 million tonnes • Hard woodchip and softwood log exports major commodity. • Balance of trade comprises navy, offshore oil & gas and passenger ships. • Over 300 heavy vehicles per day use Eden port. • Large port storage facility, wood chip mill and naval ammunition depot. • Over 30% of freight movements originated or destined for Victoria.

  7. New site – Eden Rest areas • Both Northbound and Southbound facilities • 3 lanes and ample length for large vehicles • Signposted • Separated from Road but close enough to enable intercepts • Good site distance • Hard stand area for weighing and use of Vehicle Inspection Trailer

  8. Challenges • Improve professionalism by providing the right equipment and resources • Gain industry respect as the best Vehicle Regulations team in NSW • Keep ahead of a growing and changing industry.
