Personal Vehicle Regulations • Rules & Regulations for the Personal Vehicles: - Anyone who is driving a Personal Vehicle must have a valid driver’s license in good standing. - Drivers must instruct all passengers to put on their seatbelts before departure. - Driver is responsible for completing a checklist before departure - All major accidents or damages should be handled immediately and reported to the proper authorities.   3. BEFORE YOU LEAVE… • Conduct a walk-around vehicle inspection. • Clear frost or snow from windows. • Locate the emergency road kit items to make sure everything is there. Teams should buy a first aid kit. • Seat belts must be used by the driver and all passengers. • Check the gas and oil level. • Drive Defensively. • Enjoy your trip!

SPORT CLUB TRAVEL PROCEDURES • A trip approval process includes identifying a group leader, roster, travel itinerary, lodging arrangements, proof of insurance, etc. • Require a group leader/student safety officer who is required to be trained and communicate with Athletics and Recreation before the trip, serve as a point person during the trip, and complete follow up procedures after the trip. • For personal vehicles, the group must submit proof of valid vehicle registration, valid insurance card, and valid driver’s licenses of all drivers. • Any trip that requires the club/organization to travel greater than 300 miles (one way) necessitates the group meeting with the club sport/organization administrator to discuss additional safety precautions and travel logistics. • Student travel (unless driven by a professional driver) is restricted between the hours of 12:00 am and 6:00 a.m., and groups must change drivers every four (4) hours. • Regardless of the type of lodging, specific contact information and location must be indicated on the travel itinerary. An emergency response plan and procedure should be in place and the group leader should complete training on protocol as an element of the approval process. A plan should include: contacting the appropriate emergency services, providing or maintaining first aid, expectations for contacting the College, and submitting post-trip documentation such as an accident report, etc. • The coach/advisor or student safety officer required by the club/organization must accompany the group during travel. • Cell phones are required equipment for all groups traveling out of town. THE DRIVER MUST NOT OPERATE A CELL PHONE WHILE THE VEHCILE IS IN MOTION.

LONG DISTANCE TRIPS • Drivers should be well rested before embarking on a long distance trip. • All night driving should be avoided whenever possible. • Limit driving shifts to four hours per driver with a 10-15 minute break between each two-hour block. • During all driving shifts, a passenger must be awake and seated next to the driver to insure the driver remains alert.   6. MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS: • A motor vehicle accident, as defined herein, shall mean any contact with property or person, regardless of the extent of the damage or injury. In the event of an accident, • If necessary, to prevent further damage or hazards, move vehicle onto the shoulder or side of the roadway if possible. Place warning signals immediately. • All vehicles are recommended to be equipped with highway emergency kits. The reflective warning triangles should be set up 100 feet or more behind the vehicle, in the event of an accident or mechanical failure. • Remain calm. Be courteous. Make no statement concerning the accident to anyone except a Police Officer. Get his/her name and the badge number. • Your are required to:   1. Call 911 when accident occurs. Report that injuries, if any, have occurred or if property is involved. • 2. Record the names and addresses of all involved or concerned, including witnesses. • 3. Record license plate numbers and descriptions of all vehicles involved and if possible, obtain the driver’s license number(s) of the other driver(s). • 4. Record all insurance information of the other driver(s). • 5. Refrain from making any statement regarding fault or liability. • 6. Notify Sport Club Director of any accident by phone (609-771-2190) or email (dsimpson@tcnj.edu) within twenty-four hours or upon your return to the campus, in person. • 7. In the event of a death, serious injury, or vehicular failure, Sport Club Director and Campus Police is to be notified immediately at (609)771-2167. • 8. Upon your return to campus, please contact the Bureau of Risk Management at extension 2881 regarding procedures, which need to be implemented
