YOU have WON the privilege of viewing Verity’s very FIRST *****************Visual Art Tour**************** As a winner, you are REWARDED by being allowed to view a very famous work of art created by the well known “Father of Impressionism” Mr. Claude Monet!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Before we begin, lets do a little reviewing………………… Claude Monet 1840-1926 Is Considered to be the father of Impressionism NOOOO, that is not the name of his child!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMPRESSIONISM = was a period in art that was more interested in the effects of on a subject- than the subject itself! It was an attempt to capture the suggestive impression of light in a scene.

  4. Today, we are going to look at Monet’s “Garden at Sainte-Adresse”!!! Wow! What do you think? Is the man talented or what?!? Below the picture what should we see???

  5. Did you guess it???????????????? Credit Line….remember???? The Credit Line gives us basic information about the work of art including: *Artist name (who painted or created the work) *Title of work *Media (material with which it was created) *Size of the work *Year the work was created *Location of the work

Sorry Mrs. Gregory- I had to make up that word to make a point!

Now lets identify other ART terms found within our painting “Garden at Sainte Adresse” Drain your brain and think about these questions! *What are the three main parts of aLANDSCAPE ? *What is the SUBJECT MATTER of this work? *Do you see the HORIZON LINE? *Can you find the FOCAL POINT? *How does Mr. Monet use EMPHASIS in regard to the focal point?

The three main parts of a landscape are: foreground, middle ground , and background The Backgroundthe area of an artwork appearing farthest away from the viewer and toward the top of the artwork.. The Middle groundisthe area in the middle of an artwork The FOREGROUNDis located toward the bottom third of the artwork. Objects usually appear larger in the foreground.

  9. Subject Matter…………………………………………………… Is the subject matter architecture? Is the subject matter animals? No, you are right!!!!!!!- it would be people within a land/seascape!

  10. Now, consider the Horizon line….We have talked about five categories of lines. Remember?!?!? Horizontal Vertical Curved Diagonal Zigzag

  11. Toooooo easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Next “???”……. Do you see the Focal Point?

  12. Remember…the FOCAL POINT is first area of the artwork to attract the viewers attention… Since Mr. Monet was an artist and not a magician, how does he keep our eyes returning to the same area??? In other words, how does he use EMPHASIS(Art Principle) to pull the viewer back to the focal point?

  13. Were you thinking by LINES? That would be one way…What about placement?

  14. Pretty close to the middle, huh? You really did not think that was an accident did you? Mr. Monet knew exactly what he was doing!

  15. That is it for today! Tomorrow we will view another artists work and “dissect” its’ content! The question sheet should now be a piece of cake!
