  1. BEST TIPS TO CHOOSE COLOUR FOR YOUR FURNITURE Moody blues, vibrant reds, summery yellows… colours are associated with moods, celebrations, mourning and a host of other things. Some say you can figure out a person’s characteristics by the colour he/she prefers to wear. festivals, seasons, If color plays such a dominant role in our lives, we can understand how difficult it becomes for you to decide on what color to paint your home with. Gone are the days

  2. when your contractor would bring in a set of limited shade cards and you’d go with whatever your family decided on. Now you have a host of websites wherein you can access thousands of colors and even textures. The choices are mind-boggling, is an understatement. So, we broke it down and made choosing colors for your home an easier and a fun-filled task. Before we begin, here’s a quick note on colors: (60% of a dominant color : 30% of a secondary color : 10% of an accent color) Which is… 60% of the room’s color is the walls 30% of the room’s color is the upholstery 10% of the room’s color is say, an accent or a floral arrangement Look for light

  3. By this, we don’t mean you search for a light sabre, but do look for sources of natural light in your rooms. It is important to know which rooms or corners get ample light or even lesser light at that. Better still, take photos of your room at various times of the day to know how well- lit or not the room is. Ask for samples

  4. Now that you’ve a fair idea of the light in your room, ask for samples of the colours which you like. No, you don’t have to ask your painter to paint a wall only to realise it was a costly mistake. But, do ask them for swatches which paint companies provide. Once, you’ve selected a desired colour, keep it in the room and once again take photos at all times and see how the colour tone changes. Every Room Has A Purpose

  5. There are rooms that you spend your whole day in, while there are others you hardly go to. No, it’s not abnormal! There’s a reason for it, they all serve a purpose. It can be entertainment, cooking, sleeping reading etc. The task now is, find out what is the mood that you are looking for and figure out your color palette. For e.g. If you and your family spend more time in the living room which gets ample light, you can choose from a bright & fun colour range like yellows, orange or even

  6. white. Whereas your bedroom can have calmer colours like blue or grey so that you can relax and be in your own private zone. Kitchen can have white walls with cabinets in warmer tones of brown. Choose your statement When it comes to painting the house, we know it is a task to get your entire family to agree on the colours. Especially, the ones concerning their rooms. Here’s a nice hack for that. Choose one dominant colour and let the

  7. rest of the rooms have shades of that colour. This way there’ll be uniformity yet diversity. For e.g. Your sofa upholstery has a nice shade of red, and it stands out in the entire room, you can use the same shade of red in different formats in other rooms for e.g. a predominantly white coloured room can have a red rug and the rest is left to your imagination. Observe Nature

  8. The reason why you will go wrong with any colour is the value. Value is relative to the lightness or darkness of the colour. A room won’t look visually balanced if one side is too dark (heavy), while the other side is light (sort of floating away). The trick here is to observe Mother Nature & learn how well she manages to create a picture perfect world. For e.g. You can go for a dark flooring (earth), medium value colour for walls (trees, mountains) and lighter value for the ceiling (sky). Be a Visual Story-Teller

  9. Have your walls tell a story, an interesting one at that. It’s always a good idea to put photos or paintings or sculptures on the wall and to better highlight your story, use textures. Textures add drama and enhance your living space. Use incandescent lights to accentuate dull corners. There is wide variety of lamps in the market to choose from. You can pick up statement pieces or go with minimal ones of you have any curio pieces that need highlighting in a particular corner.

  10. It is always a good idea to have a chat with your interior designer or a friend whose color choices you like. Understand the nature of colour and how it affects your mood, get acquainted with colour terminology and you’ll find out how enjoyable the whole process can be. Cheers to colours!
