This presentation discusses the successful establishment of Rhode Island's first public-use CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) station at T.F. Green Airport. Highlighting reduced air emissions and compliance with stringent environmental regulations, the project illustrates the transition from traditional fuels to CNG, driven by a 2005 Executive Order by Governor Carcieri. Key milestones include the selection of AVSG for design and installation, and the deployment of CNG-powered shuttle buses. The initiative not only showcases the benefits of CNG as a cleaner alternative but also promotes renewable energy usage through bio-methane.

Why CNG? • Reduction in air emissions • 2005 Executive Order by Governor Carcieri
Project Timeline • January 2002 – RIAC issues RFP for design and installation. • February 2002 - RIAC selects AVSG. • June 2005 - RIAC entered into agreement with AVSG.
May 22, 2006 RIAC opens State’s first public-use CNG station
CNG • CNG meets the tightest environmental restrictions with around 20% lower CO2. • Using CNG from bio-methane means that zero CO2 transportation is now available. • Substitute for gasoline (petrol), diesel, or propane fuel. • Environmentally "clean" alternative and it is much safer than other motor fuels in the event of a fuel spill. • Methane (CH4), to less than 1% of its volume at standard atmospheric pressure.
