Performance Indicators Teacher: As documented through teacher observation, at Level 1, the student is able to 3.4.tpi.2. differentiate among the stages in the life cycle of a butterfly, a frog, and plants. at Level 2, the student is able to 3.4.tpi.3. examine the similarities and differences between parents and their offspring. 3.4.tpi.4. describe the life cycle of an organism. at Level 3, the student is able to 3.4.tpi.5. create a timeline that depicts the changes that occur during an organisms life cycle

    3. The learner will: be able to name and identify the four stages of a butterflys life cycle write a paragraph addressing the information from this presentation

    4. The First Stage of a Butterfly's Life. The egg is the first stage of a butterflys life.

    5. The eggs are laid in a safe location on or near the plants that the caterpillar will eat.

    6. The Second Stage of a Butterflys Life The second stage is the larva or caterpillar.

    7. The Second Stage of a Butterflys Life This is a picture of a real caterpillar in its natural habitat.

    8. The larva eats constantly and grows quickly.

    9. The Third Stage of a Butterflys Life The chrysalis or pupa is the hard covering formed around the larva. Inside this covering, the pupa changes

    10. The Third Stage of a Butterflys Life This is an actual picture of a pupa.

    11. The Last Stage of a Butterflys Life. The final stage is the pupa breaking open; an adult butterfly emerges.

    12. Metamorphosis The development from an egg, to larva, to pupa, and adult butterfly is metamorphosis.
