  2. Introduction You are going on vacation for a week to the Mariana Islands in Guam with your best friend and his/her parents. Your mom tells you to call her everyday so she can hear from you and make sure you are okay. The problem is that you will be in totally different time zone which means it will be a different time in Guam than the time it will be back home. How will you know when to call your mom?

Task You will create a TIME ZONE GALLERY BOOK which will contain the following: • Total number of time zones in the world. • Learn what Longitude and Latitude are. • How is the worlds time zones divided if it goes from North to South? Longitude or Latitude? • Total number of time zones in the USA and territories. • Find one state that belongs to each of the nine time zones. • Write one interesting fact you learned about time zones.

Materials • One piece of construction paper • Four pieces of white computer paper • Markers/color pencils/crayons • Scissors • Whole punch • Piece of string HOW TO MAKE BOOK • Cut construction paper in half; it will be cover page and back page. • Cut each piece of white computer paper in half. • Every bullet point will be on a separate sheet of computer paper. • BE CREATIVE! • DRAW PICTURES! • Hole punch on top left corner and tie string on.

  5. Process • First thing you will be looking for is the total number of time zones in the world. You can find this by watching the following video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=widWLhIIbzs • You will read and learn the difference between longitude and latitude lines by going to the following site: http://www-istp.gsfc.nasa.gov/stargaze/Slatlong.htm • You will find the answer of how the worlds time zones are divided by the longitude in the video you previously watched. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=widWLhIIbzs

Process – Page 2 • Find the total number of time zones in the USA and territories in the following site: http://aglobalworld.com/time-zones/world-time-zones.php • Continue to learn about the US time zones by finding at least one state that belongs to each of the nine time zones. Go to: http://www.happyzebra.com/timezones-worldclock/currentlocalusa.php#tz • You may use any of the links provided in order to find one interesting fact you found.

  7. Accommodations • Students may work individually or in partners. • Those working in partners will have to come to the teacher in order to okay it.

  8. Evaluation • Every section/bullet is worth 2 pts all sections/bullets together  ___/14 pts • Completion  ___/2 pts • Creativity  ___/2 pts • Time Zone Gallery Book  ___/2 pts • TOTAL POINTS  ___/20 pts

  9. Conclusion • You have now ended your journey through Time Zone Mania • You found and have learned all of the US time zones as well as the world time zones • You can now travel around the world and know your time zones as well as knowing the time difference
