Resurrection Predicted • Mark alone records 5 times where Jesus predicted his death and resurrection. • Mark 10:32-34 “32And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. And they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, 33 saying, "See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. 34 And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise." ”

  8. Appearances • First appeared to Mary Magdalene and other women • Later he appeared to two of his disciples walking along the road • Later he appeared to the rest of his disciples • Appears at least 14 times in next 40 days

  9. Did he simply rise in their hearts? • He took great pains to demonstrate physical resurrection • He ate with them • He asked them to touch his hands • The resurrection was the central message of the early apostles’ teaching.

  10. Resurrection important for two main reasons • It solves the problem of life after death • It guarantees the day of judgment

  11. Acts 10:39-43 • All people will be raised from the dead (general resurrection) • All people will be judged • The risen Jesus will be the judge • All people will be divided into two groups • Makes distinction based on belief (Mark 10:43) • Those that reject him? (Mark 8:38) • The division is forever • Heaven and hell
