  2. Richard Wagner • Born in Leipzig, Germany on May 22 , 1813, Richard Wagner was born into a good family. • His mother a daughter of a baker, and his father, a clerk at the Leipzig police department. • Richard had a well off life.

  3. Childhood • As a child Richard's father died and Wagner was primarily raised by his mother and stepfather. • His stepfathers profession: acting and painting. During his time as a child Wagner was enrolled in good Schools. His stepfathers interest in the arts motivated him as a child. • It was not until the age of 16 he Began to study music seriously, he entered a university in Leipzig Germany where he began to compose Operas .

Wagner's Operas • Wagner’s operas are mainly what he is known for today. • Although most of his operas left him in debt, Wagner kept on writing. • Unlike most opera composers Wagner wrote both the Libretto ( lyrics of the opera) and the music. • Most of his styles where based upon German myths and legends.

Famous Compositions Some of Wagner's compositions include: Leubald Sonata in D minor Aria String Quartet in D major Sonata in F minor Schäferoper (Die Laune des Verliebten) Lieder Aria for soprano and orchestra Piano reduction of Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 One you might recognize
