  3. Communication Strategies---Task Two • Points of view • Read the dialogue between Jin-Sookand Nazim , then try to answer the following questions: • What does Jin-Sook think make us greedy? • What effect does Nazim think competition has? • 3. What does Jin-Sook think some people believe in?

  4. POINTS OF VIEW---MONEY MAKES US GREEDY Money is the main cause of selfishness and stress in human relationships. It makes us greedy and competitive. I think we should all get paid the same amount of money. Each of us could then choose what to do with that amount. Some of us would spend it on vacations, some of us on our homes……

  5. It’s not simple as that. How about people who don’t want to work? Should they receive the same amount? Money is an incentive to work. If everybody received the same amount, many people wouldn’t work hard. And we need competition to encourage us to continually develop and improve society. It’s human nature.

  6. Money is not the only incentive to work. Some people work hard because they like the people they are working with ,or because they believe in the social value of what they are doing, or even just out of a sense of responsibility. When we focus on money, we tend to forget about these other incentives, and the quality of our lives suffers.

  7. I wish you were right! But you’re missing the point. Humans are basically greedy. It’s not money that makes us greedy. We are greedy so we want money.

  8. This part can be homework • play a part of film: A MILLIONAIRE and imitate this part and replay it. Or make up a new version.

  9. ROLE PLAY :SITUATION---BUYING AND SELLING • Brainstorming: Think of things you own that you might be prepared to sell. • Think of ways of describing these things to impress potential buyers. • Think of ways to get money back for things you have bought. • 1st stage: In groups, each of you starts with $1,000,000. Auction things you own to others in the group. • Examples: • How much will you give me for my CD player? • It’s in very good condition. I’ve only had it for one year. • It’s worth much more than that. Won’t somebody make me a better offer? • 2nd stage: After a time limit, each of you complains about the things you have bought and tries to sell them back . • Example: • You said it was as good as new, but it’s covered in scratches. • If I’d known it was plastic, I wouldn’t have offered so much. • You should have asked me what it was made of. • 3rd stage: After another time limit, make a list of what you own and how much money you have left.
