  6. Level 5 Leader Qualities ~ “Level 5 leaders blend the paradoxical combination of deep personal humility with intense professional will.” - Looks in the mirror, not out the window, to take responsibility for poor results, never blaming other people, external factors or bad luck. Looks out the window, not in the mirror, to give credit for the success of the company – to other people, external factors and good luck. - They channel their ego away from their self into the larger goal of building a great company and great teams. -They are quiet, humble, modest, reserved, gracious, mild-mannered and understanding.

  7. Example Consider Darwin E. Smith: In 1971, this seemingly ordinary man became chief executive of Kimberly-Clark. He inherited a company that for one hundred years had been merely good, never great. A mediocre player in the paper industry, Kimberly-Clark returns to investors had fallen 36 percent behind the general stock market over the twenty years prior to Darwin Smith's ascension to CEO. Over the next twenty years, Smith led a stunning turnabout, generating returns to investors that beat the general stock market by over four times, easily outperforming such companies as Hewlett-Packard, General Electric, and Coca-Cola.

  8. It takes time and effort, but can be accomplished with passion! You don't have to progress through each level in turn to get to Level 5.
