  1. Rationale for teaching PDHPE in Primary Schools

  2. Physical Health • PDHPE lessons educate children as to the importance of proper nutrition and regular exercise and rest.

  3. Emotional Health • PDHPE lessons are important for stabilizing and developing the child’s mental and emotional health. It is important for children to understand that there is a purpose to life, to be sociable and to be happy, in order for them to grow and mature in a changing society.

  4. Spiritual Health • PDHPE is important to a child’s spiritual health so they know what is wrong behaviour and way of thinking and what is right behaviour and way of thinking. The children later in life can make moral decisions.

  5. Social Health • Vygotsky has indicated in his research that children best in a social environment with peers for example. Working in pairs or small groups increases inclusiveness and greater social self-confidence.
