Monte Sano State Park Amphitheatre Monte Sano State Park Amphitheatre…a nearby journey into Ancient Greece Similarities All are built into hillside All are made up of a tall skene, circular orchestra and semicircular theatron Almost all host modern day performances (Monte Sano Amphitheatre and the Greek Epidaurus) Differences Our amphitheatre skene is simply two walls, not a building Greek theatres are about 2500 years old…our Amphitheatre is less than 100. Greek theatres are about 5730 miles away….our Amphi- theatre is 7.5 miles away! Greek theatres seat up to 15,000…our Amphitheatre seats less than 1000.   2. Like the ancient Greek theatres, the Monte Sano Amphitheatre is an outdoor theatre built into a hillside. Unlike the ancient Greek theatres which are about 2,500 years old, Monte Sano Amphitheatre is less than 100 years old. Monte Sano State Park Amphitheatre in Huntsville, AL Unlike ancient Greek theatres which seat up to 15,000, the Monte Sano Amphitheatre seats less than 1000. Like the ancient Greek theatres, the Monte Sano Amphitheatre is made up of a tall skene, circular orchestra and semi-circular theatron. Note: Our skene is two walls, not a building. Like some ancient Greek theatres (like the Epidaurus), modern day performances are still held at Monte Sano Amphitheatre.
