  3. What is Agriculture Agriculture- Production of plants and animals and the related supplies, services, mechanics, products, processing, and marketing of those plants and animals

  4. Mech… What? • Mechanical- Having to do with a machine, mechanism, or machinery • Mechanic- Person trained to do mechanical skills • Mechanics-Branch of physics dealing with motion and the action of forces o bodies or fluids

  5. Agricultural Mechanics • Selection, operation, maintenance, service, selling, and use of power units, machinery, equipment, structures, and utilities used in Agriculture.

  6. Agriculture Mechanics… Ag Power & Machinery -Tractors, Machinery & Equipment Ag Structures - Barns, Greenhouses, Fences Ag Fabrication - Welding Ag Engineering - Designing

  7. Examples of Ag Mechanics • Engineer who designs tractors and other Agricultural machines • Electrician who installs climate control systems in greenhouses • Soil conservationist who constructs terraces to control erosion • Welder who repairs farm machinery • Mechanics who repair lawn/garden equipment or tractors and machinery

Influence of Ag Mechanics • Thomas Jefferson- invented iron plow • John Deere-invented steel plow in 1837 • Eli Whitney- invented Cotton Gin in 1793 • Edmund Quincy- invented the mechanical corn picker in 1850 • Joseph Glidden-invented Barbed Wire • Anna Baldwin-invented vacuum milking machine in 1878 • John Holt- invented Tractor in 1904

What about the Future? • Jobs • Careers are being constantly created for workers in the Ag mechanics industry, as long as we, the consumers, continue to purchase products there will be a need for workers in the field. • Have the opportunity to make a GREAT LIVING in the Agriculture Field ( Especially Ag Mechanics).
