  2. Innovation – a definition Innovation:the process through which economic and social value is extracted from knowledge through the generation, development, and implementation of ideas to produce new or improved strategies, capabilities, products, services, or processes.

Fostering innovation • All Public sector procurement policy has a critical role to play to support innovation – it is the cornerstone of sustainable productivity improvement • It creates multiplier value in the economy • It is inherently scalable • It is repeatable Innovation can come from Large and Small companies

  4. What is the outcome we want? • Find ways to fund (through Public Private Partnerships or through public funds alone) capacity for innovation – e.g. Centre of Excellence • Use procurement model as a strategic tool to show-case innovation in delivery of services to Canadians • Create conditions that promotes adoption of technology which drives innovation which in turn improves productivity

  5. Ideas that may fit within SSC mandate • Build awareness & culture of innovation within SSC • Create conditions under which innovative solutions demonstrate public good • Secure the internal mandate to procure • Engage private sector in ongoing discussions on issues and opportunities For our members it will be important to understand what policy and executional tools are available to SSC to support & foster innovation
