  2. CHB 1 Godhead - Lecture 1 part 2 • Contents • The Being of God 1- 4d • 2 / 11

  3. Introduction • We will never be able to understand God`s nature or substance because He is Spiritbut we can get an idea by reading the Bible. • We were created in His image but we do not have His qualities: • No sin • Always the same • Righteous etc. • 3 / 11

  4. The Being of God - 1 • God's essence (nature, substance or basic qualities) which is above our understanding, gave us our being, creating us in His own image. • So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27 • God is busy about you now, dealing with you. God Himself is touching your soul by His Spirit within you until His image appears in your life. • 4 / 11

  5. The Being of God - 2 • God is spirit, which means that He does not exist in the flesh and neither does He have any other kind of physical form • God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.“ John 4:24 • 5 / 11

  6. The Being of God - 3 • He is a Personal Spirit He is rational. He is self conscious (aware of Himself.) He is supremely intelligent He is a moral agent • “But He is unique, and who can make Him change? And whatever His soul desires, that He does.Job 23:13 • 6 / 11

  7. The Being of God - 4 • God is Infinite Spirit - • God has no boundaries or limitations we can see • For example in: • Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen1 Timothy 1:17 • Time • Space • Universe • 7 / 11

  8. The Being of God – 4a • When we speak of His infinitude regarding Time, we refer to ETERNITY. God is eternal. He is not bound by time • Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. Psalm 90:2 • But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day2 Peter 3:8 • 8 / 11

  9. The Being of God – 4b • When we speak of His infinitude, regarding Space, we refer to His OMNIPRESENCE. • Ask yourself: is there any physical location in this universe where we can hide from the presence of God? The answer, according to Scripture, is a resounding “No”Psalm 139:7–10 • 9 / 11

  10. The Being of God – 4c When we speak of His infinitude, regarding the Universe we refer to His TRANSCEDENCE. This means that He is detached from, and not part of, creation that He made. He literally “stepped over” or is exalted to a higher plane altogether • 10 / 11

  11. The Being of God – 4d • God has IMMANENCE • God is a being who is found "right here.". • God is not only exalted (lifted up in stature) He also has an all-pervading presence within His creation, whether organic or inorganic. He is able to move through all life, and understand every feeling. He cares for everything and everyone. • 11 / 11
