What is a Community Wellness Center? • an organization that promotes health and well-being to a particular group of people by targeting the individuals and their relationship to the group • collective behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs of the individuals affects the community’s health • a combination of educational, organizational, and environmental activities designed to improve the health and safety of the individuals and therefore the group as a whole

  3. PROs • do not focus on one area of health • learn about many different health issues • do not continuously do same activates • different projects keeps interest • work with a diverse group of individuals

  4. CONs • due to numerous projects : • one may not be able to oversee all of the stages of development • balancing all the needs may be difficult • not many managerial positions available in one center • irregular and possible long hours

Our Lady of Lourdes Wellness Center • Offer wellness classes to the community: • Fitness, Wholistic Movement & Yoga Classes • Support Groups • Healthy Lifestyle Offerings • Free Programs • Wellness Spirituality and Retreats • Massage Sessions & Bodywork/Spa Services • The 50 Plus Club (elderly) & The Bridge (youth) • Individual Healthcare/Wellness/Nutrition Counseling

  6. Young Men’s Christian Association • Offer various programs to the community: • Child Care • Before and After School Programs • Aquatics • Health/Fitness Courses • Youth Sports • Summer Camps • Skate Park

Jewish Community Center • Offer to the community: • Health, Fitness, and Wellness • Gymnasium with Indoor/Outdoor tracks and pools • Aerobic Studios • Mind/Body Studios • Spas • Group Classes • Achieving Community Hopes and Dreams: • Special Needs for children and adults • Outside Services: • Rehab Connection/Nutrition Counseling/Massage Therapy

  8. Drexel University Master of Public Health At the end of Year 1, students select a public health major, known as the concentration area, which becomes their focus during Year 2. Throughout both years, the problem-based learning curriculum emphasizes public health competencies. The community service-learning component begins in Year 1 with community site visits, service learning workshops and practicum experiences. In Year 2, the Community-Based Masters Project (CBMP) Program requires students to conduct projects that require on-site activities throughout the academic year culminating with a comprehensive paper, a poster presentation, and an oral defense.
