  2. Learning Objective: To learn about the life of Charles Dickens. Charles Dickens is a famous British book writer and many of his books have turned into great movies like Great Expectations or one that is more popular A Christmas Carol or another one is Oliver.

  4. EARLY LIFE Charles Dickens was born on the 7th of February 1812 in Portsmouth, England. His parents were John Dickens (a naval pay clerk), and Elizabeth Barrow. When he was ten his family moved to Camden, London. He worked in a blacking factory there while his dad went to prison for debt. At that factory he got the base idea for many of his books like Oliver Twist.

  5. LIFE AS A WRITER Charles first book was Sketches by Boz in 1836 which was a collection of short pieces he had been writing for the monthly magazine and the Evening Chronicle. This was followed by The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club in 1837. Both of these books became popular as soon as they were printed.
