  3. My Proposed Law “All social websites and school programs/programed sites will be checked frequently by higher placed law enforcers, or people hired by them. To make sure that there is no inappropriate or harmful behavior occurring. Your private messages, e-mails, chats, etc. will only be checked if you are suspected of harmful/hurtful behavior.”

  4. Supports Individual Rights • If you are using the internet properly and wisely you private messages, e-mails, chats, etc. will be yours and private unless you are suspected. • If you are using the internet properly and wisely you private messages, e-mails, chats, etc. will be yours and private unless you are suspected. • Schools, courts, etc. will not have the power to obtain personal information without a necessary cause. • Supports Common Good • Less illegal acts through the internet without knowledge. • Less bullying issues. • More protection for younger people on the internet.

  5. Nicola Brookes v. anonymous cyber bullies a. Conflict Nicola posted something about a favorite television show. Soon before she knew she was being cyber bullied. Slanderous statements were made from anonymous bullies through the internet. i. The bullies had called her a drug dealer/attic and even went as far as making a webpage about her. b. Highest Court Ruling: Court ruled that Facebook had to turn of the names, email addresses, and IP addresses of the anonymous bullies. • i. These people were fined for their malicious acts. • c. Precedent Set: There was also no precedent here. • Bullying happens when there's too much privacy. • This could be something that happens when people have too much privacy with computers and the internet. • People take advantage of the internet by doing this. Court Cases • 1. Case One: Robbins v. Lower Merion School District • a. Precedent: No laws were changed. • b. How this supports my/our law: This supports my law because this could be something that happens when people have too much privacy with computers and the internet. • Shows that too much privacy can be a bad thing. • If people were aloud to frequently check sites this wouldn’t happen. • When people don’t use the internet rights it can be harmful so people should be aloud to check this stuff.

  6. Current Events • 1. Current Event Article 1: Amanda Todd • Amanda had been bullied through the internet as well as in school for over two years about something that happened through a video chat. • No one did anything about. Everyone expected it to go away, but it didn’t. She moved schools several times but the bullying just continued. • She had enough. Amanda Todd committed suicide on October 10, 2012. Two weeks before her 16th birthday. • Also is involved with bullying over the internet. • Kids take advantage of the internet and use it to harm people. • Bullying and slander is illegal and this takes place over the internet without knowledge due to privacy laws.

  7. Current Events Continued • How it supports my/our law: Another case in which kids take advantage of use of internet to disturb people lives. • Cyber bullying • Too much privacy • 2.
