  2. Purpose Of Lesson Part 7 Learn how this marvel called an Integrated Circuit (IC) is designed, manufactured, and how it works.

  3. VOCABULARY FOR THIS LESSON CONDUCTOR INSULATOR TRANSISTOR SEMICONDUCTOR. SUPERCONDUCTOR CLEAN ROOM PHOTOLITHOGRAPHY

  4. CONDUCTOR • ANY MATERIAL THAT CAN CONDUCT (CARRY) ELECTRONS (ELECTRICITY). • CAN YOU NAME SOME?

  5. INSULATOR • ANY MATERIAL THAT STOPS THE FLOW OF ELECTRONS.

  6. TRANSISTORS • TWO TYPES NPN AND PNP. • CAN STOP OR START THAT FLOW OF ELECTRONS. • CAN BOOST THE FLOW OF ELECTRONS.

  7. SEMICONDUCTOR • ON SEMICONDUCTOR IS SILICON • SILICON IS THE MOST ABUNDANT ELEMENT IN THE EARTH’S CRUST • BASICALLY GLASS • CAN EITHER CONDUCT OR INSULATE DEPENDING ON HOW ITS TREATED!

  8. SUPERCONDUCTORS • CONDUCT ELECTRONS WITHOUT LOSING ANY!! • NO HEAT GIVEN OFF!!! • ALL THAT WE HAVE ARE ONES THAT WORK WHILE VERY COLD!!!

  9. SUPERCONDUCTORS • Scientist are looking for a room temperature superconductor for years now with no luck. • If they find one it will revolutionize the WORLD AS WE KNOW IT!!!! • Superconductors also exhibit almost magical properties!

  10. CLEAN ROOM • ROOM THAT IS KEPT 100,000 TIMES CLEANER THAN AN OPERATION ROOM. COST BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO BUILD ROOMS THIS CLEAN!!!!!

  11. PHOTOLITHOGRAPHY • USING LIGHT TO PRINT THINGS DOWN TO JUST A COUPLE DOZEN MICRONS WIDE!!!
