Good Management MCA What’s new on CSL DfT L&D Calendar – June & July Good management Despite significant changes in the Civil Service over the last few years DfT Civil Service People Survey scores for ‘My manager’ have remained good at 66%. To build on this People Survey Result we wish to share the positive behaviours that you would expect to find in managers at all levels. Civil Service Learning will be running a year long ‘Good Management’ campaign to celebrate the good management practices that are happening right across the Civil Service during this time of change. This will focus on three positive behaviours of managers: 1. Manager as leader; 2. Manager as developer; 3. Manager as supporter. Good Management MCA What’s new on CSL CSL will signpost you to the current theme… • Manager asleader- Supporting you to make positive steps to becoming a good example/ role model to the rest of the team and your peers as well as ensuring the team understand the bigger picture. • Manager as developer - Showing how you can take a proactive role in the development of each individual member of your team. • 3. Manager assupporter- Enabling you to create a culture where your team feel that they have your support, where you will listen to them and will properly represent them to others. Counts as part of your 5 a year learning! The first phase ‘manager as leader’ will run from June to August.

Tips & resources to improve your communication All tool kits & guides count to your 5 a year – record this as completed on your PDMR! CSL Chartered Management Institute (CMI) courses For all those who have applied to complete a CMI management course, declarations of study and start dates have now been distributed. We wish you all the best with your study and look forward to hearing about your progress as the year moves on.

Sustainable Development e – Learning Course Overview of sustainable development, the key mechanisms through which it is being mainstreamed in all government activities and how it relates to each of us, whatever our role. Financial Foundations e – Learning Course An introductory module to the finance learning package – Finance Skills for all. Looks at whole government finance from planning and control through to how to interpret financial information & accounts. Digital Masterclass – Alpha in a half day SCS & Grade 6/ 7 Alpha is a short phase at the beginning of service design in which you prototype solutions for your users needs. In this master-class you will have the opportunity to experience an Alpha phase in half a day!
