  1. Revised Feed-in Tariff in France: To Drive Sustainable Renewable Market Development

  2. Renewable energy sources offer viable options to address the energy security concerns of a country. France has been making consistent efforts to increase the presence of renewables in the country’s energy basket. France has set a target of a 21% share of renewable energy in the electricity consumption of energy by 2010 and 50% by 2015. As a result of the target of 21% energy through renewable sources by 2010, the installed power generation capacity from renewables in France increased from around 21,648 MW in 2001 to 26,605 MW by 2009. The growth rate of the installed renewable power generation capacity of France during the period 2001-2009 was 2.6%. Hydro (small and large) is the major source of renewable power in the country, accounting for 78.4% of the country’s cumulative renewable power installed capacity. Wind energy was a distant second, accounting for 16.9%. Biomass accounted for 3.2% and solar PV, biogas and geothermal energy accounted for 1%, 0.5% and 0.1% respectively in France’s renewable energy basket.
