  4. Due Process • Emphasizes the following: • The Adversarial Process (Courts) • Rights of the Defendants • Formal Decision Making Procedures

  5. GOALS OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM

  6. DOING JUSTICE • Offenders will be held fully accountable for their actions. • The rights of persons who have contact with the system will be protected. • Like offenses will be treated alike.

  7. CONTROLLING CRIME • Control Crime by arresting, prosecuting, convicting, and punishing those who disobey the law • Must be carried out within the framework of the law

  8. PREVENTING CRIME • Deterrent effect of Police, Courts, and Corrections. • Not only punishing those who violate the law but also provide examples to others who may commit wrongful acts.
