  2. THREE CYCLES IN HIGHER EDUCATION

  3. Implementation of the first and second cycle • The ECTS in first and second cycle of studies is applied in every member of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje • The main emphasis in the reforms was placed on innovation in the teaching contents, introducing modules, introducing optional syllabus, as well as defining the pre-conditions • This provided more flexible and professional syllabi. Passage from first into second cycle of study • 95% of the available curricula provide direct passage into second cycle • Curricula which does not provide direct passage belong to the technical (mechanical, technological and electrical engineering) and medicine science PRIUM Vice-Rector prof. Implementation of the third cycle of study • Introduction of third cycle of studies is in initial phase • The general concept that doctoral studies last for three years with acquired 180 credit points has been acknowledged • Up to now three doctoral curricula have been submitted for accreditation by University’s members • The existence of Centre for International Doctoral Studies in the field of engineering can be pointed out as a positive example.   6. CONNECTION WITH THE ECONOMY

Connection of higher education with economy through research • In 2007 the European Innovation and Information Centre was established at the University with the main purpose to provide innovation and competitiveness. • The centre has around 600 members from more than 40 countries. Primarily, the Centre was intended for small and medium enterprises, but also for communication with large companies. PRIUM Vice-Rector prof. E. Dumova-Jovanoska

  8. Cooperation with companies (employers) • In 2006, in cooperation with the Austrian Agency for Development the University established the Business Start-up Centre. The seat of the centre is at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering • Most of the faculties established foundations for students’ scholarships with resources provided from the economy PRIUM Vice-Rector prof. Providing quality • The University implemented two procedures for self-evaluation and external evaluation with participation of experts from the European Agency for Evaluation • The reports from the external evaluation have been included in the action plans for University development PRIUM Vice-Rector prof. Students participation • The students have legal right for representation in every managing body of the University and the faculties • The students’ role in the self-evaluation process is significant • The students survey became a practice of announcing the students opinion and assessment of the teaching staff at the end of every semester. International studies • Post-graduate specialist (master) studies- literature, languages and linguistics, language course, business and international trade at the Faculty of Philology “Blaze Koneski” in cooperation with the University of Orleans, France; • Graduate studies in E-Business Management at the Faculty of Economics, Skopje, (TEMPUS project JEP-17030); • Post-graduate studies in E-business Management at the Faculty of Economics in Skopje MEMFES, (TEMPUS project JEP-40093-2005); • Post-graduate studies in Statistical Methods For Business And Economics, (TEMPUS project JEP-40015-2005); • International post-graduate studies- ECOSYSTEM INFORMATICS - Development of Postgraduate Curriculum at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies(TEMPUS project JEP-41038-2006) PRIUM Vice-Rector prof.   16. Studies for joint diploma • Joint post-graduate studies in Software Engineering at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (Joint M.Sc. Curriculum in Software EngineeringTempus project CD_JEP-18035-2003); • Project for establishing inter-disciplinary under-graduate studies in Development of Enviromental and Resourses Engeneering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy in cooperation with the University of Florence, Italy (TEMPUS project JEP-19028-2004 DEREC). Promotion of European education in the world • For more than 25 years the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology has been organizing short post-graduate studies in the field of earthquake engineering, visited by students from more than 40 countries.
