  1. Sponsored by The Society for Modeling and Simulation International • AI, Simulation and Planning– AIS'2002 • April 7-10, 2002Lisbon, Portugal TowardsComponent-Based Modeling and Simulation Honorary Chair Bernard P. Zeigler, University of Arizona, USA General Chair Fernando J. Barros, University of Coimbra, Portugal Local Arrangements Maria J. Vasconcelos, Tropical Research Institute, Portugal Topics Practices and Applications Simulation of Agent Systems Simulation-Based Acquisition Collaborative/Distributed Modeling Web-based and Distributed Simulation Visualization M&S Tools Mobile Computer Networks Enterprise Manufacturing Natural Resources M&S Theory and Methodology Component-Oriented Modeling DEVS Theory and Standardization Formal Model Specification/Validation Hybrid Analog/Discrete Modeling Dynamic Structure Modeling Simulation Life Cycle Methodology Call for Participation Software Components are a recent technology that promises to deliver reuseable and scalabe software. Although nowadays there is no single definition of component, several standards are emerging. The impact of these technologies in the simulation field is an exciting area of research. On the other hand simulation methodologies can contribute to shape the contours of component technology. Looking at the history of Simulation and Software Engineering we can recognize the fundamental impact of earlier simulation languages in shaping the now, widely used, Object-Oriented Languages. The 12th Anniversary of the AIS series will take place in Lisbon, Portugal. AIS-2002 similar to its predecessors, provides a forum for scientists, academicians, and professionals alike from around the globe to present their latest and exciting research findings in various fields of Artificial Intelligence, modeling, simulation, and their integration. The AI, Simulation, and Planning conference welcomes contributions in the topic areas listes above. We also welcome proposals on special sessions and topics. Beside technical sessions and invited keynote presentations the conference will feature panel discussions and workshops. World-Wide Web Site: http://ais2002.dei.uc.pt
