  3. Our Approach www.nogalesport.org

  4. Sample Key Projects

  5. Key Issues

  6. Key Issues

  7. Nogales by the Numbers Source: US Customs and Border Protection • Every mode but rail is down, yet wait times remain just as long if not longer www.nogalesport.org

  8. Investment to date at Mariposa • $13.694 Million included in FY ‘07 Federal Buildings Fund • Jones Studio selected as design firm (Phoenix-based firm) • Final design approved in December ‘08 • $199.48 million for construction in FY ’09 American Recovery Act • Fully Funded!! • Project is a National Priority! • Environmental Assessment to be completed April ‘09 • Anticipate start up of construction June/July ‘09 • US Side Entry and Egress ($4.3 million) • Entry and egress to and from the port of entry, and lane to allow for trucks to ramp up to traveling speed on Mariposa Road www.nogalesport.org

  9. Challenges • The promise of Mariposa depends on: • Getting additional staffing • Making sure project is completed on budget and on time • Making sure that the long-term improvements take place on the Mexican side (ie: the widening of the corridor, new gate for maquilas) • Enhanced connectivity to I-19 on the US side • Complete DCR and advance project with urgency once we know what it entails and what it will cost • Not loosing cargo today to Texas and California www.nogalesport.org

  10. Benefits to Nogales and the Region • The investments at Mariposa will: • Make Nogales an state of the art cargo facility, second to none on the border and ahead most • Help to reduce wait times at Nogales • Reduce wait times at DeConcini • Have a positive impact on our retail sales and sales tax revenue • Make us, Sonora and Arizona more competitive versus Texas and California • Help attract new investment to the region • Will reduce wait times for crossing of produce • And much more www.nogalesport.org

  11. Messaging • We need to get the word out that Nogales is a great place to do business and to invest • As examples of the message: • With the investment in our ports of entry and the access to the federal highway system on both sides of the border, the Nogales ports will be among the most efficient on the entire border • At DeConcini and Morley Gate we have SENTRI and Pedestrian SENTRI lanes to help expedite the flow of people • Nogales continues to be one of the safest cities in Arizona and the nation • A very entrepreneurial community • Our work with the other border communities, the Commerce Authority and Arizona-Mexico Commission is critical in drawing attention to Nogales and the Arizona border. www.nogalesport.org
