O termo "alfacinha", diminutivo de alface, foi muito usado no Brasil para designar, muitas vezes de forma pejorativa, os portugueses nascidos em Lisboa. A alface é composta por 92-95% de água, óleo essencial, albumina, vitaminas A e C, cálcio, fósforo e ferro. A Couve Tronchuda é uma variedade de couve tradicional muito apreciada na culinária.
