  2. Example #1 A sample gallon of lake water contains 2.5  103 bacteria. It is estimated that there are 4.0  1012 gallons of water in the lake. Approximate the number of bacteria the lake contains. The lake contains 1.0  1016 bacteria.

  3. Example #2 A vat at the zoo was created to contain the maximum number of fish used to feed the seals. The vat can contain 4.5  106 fish. The seals at the zoo eats 9  104fish each day. For how many days will a full vat of fish feed the seals? A full vat will feed the seals for 50 days.

  4. Example #3 The theater had 6.0  106 movie goers last year. What was the average monthly attendance for the theater? The theater’s attendance averages 5 105 people a month.
