Efficient Recycling Practices at KSU: Office and Classroom Collections

The KSU recycling program focuses on office and classroom collections using compactors and advanced disposal methods. Materials are processed at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), with a single-stream approach for mixed recyclables. Much of the sorting process is mechanized, though hand-sorting is employed for specific plastics (#1 and #2) and steel cans. The baling machine plays a critical role, producing bales weighing 800 lbs of aluminum, which can re-enter the market in approximately 60 days. Together, these efforts promote sustainability and environmental responsibility.
