  2. STEM Camp @ FGCU 2017 Lee County JROTC conducted their First STEM Camp at FGCU 31 July- 3 June • 60 cadets from Lee County Participated • 6 cadets from Mariner High School participated • 5 Instructors, 1 Nurse • FGCU Engineer, Forensic Anthropology, Environmental departments conducted the training.

  3. DAY 1 Deployment JROTC programs from throughout the county rallied at South Ft. Myers High Schools. The cadets were broken down by JCLC Camp and STEM camp into companies and moved onto buses for deployment to their camps.

  4. Day 1 ENGINEERING Buses arrive at FGCU, cadets were assigned rooms in the Dorms and given a briefing from FGCU, Dr Frost, Director of the STEM program at FGCU.

  5. DAY 1 Engineering in Practice The cadets were introduced to basic Engineering and explained what Engineering was and applied a practical exercise on building a model Bridge and designing a parachute that could support a water balloon. The Parachute was deployed from the balcony with the expectation the parachute would support the balloon.

  6. Day 2 Forensic Anthropology Forensic Anthropology was a full day of introduction in the morning and application in the afternoon. The cadets spent the morning getting an understanding of the forensic aspect connected to investigation and going out in the afternoon to a dig site and digging for evidence that was buried a previous year. Dirt samplings and bone discovery was the theme of the afternoon.

  7. Day 2 Forensic Anthropology Afternoon The afternoon was filled with investigation, evidence gathering and samples discovered.

  8. Day 3 Environmental Science Environmental scientist spent the day with our cadets explaining the profession, science, and importance of Environmental Science to the world. Collection of samples; water, fish, insects and plants were the morning events with studies of each samples and recording the data to analyze the Data for invasive plants, animals, insects and pollutants was the results of the Study.

  9. Day 4 Briefing to Dr Frost The last day was involved in the students briefing Dr. Frost on the last fours days and what they learned. Attached are the briefing from the cadets.   10. STEM CAMP 2017 The STEM camp was excellent success. The Staff at FGCU provided our cadets with incredible experience that was professional, informative and valuable for the cadets future. Along with all the classes, Dr. Frost, the director of STEM and the FGCU recruiter spent two hours in the first evening explaining the requirement to attend college. The cadets received information on GPA requirements, SAT and ACT scores and answered questions the Cadets had on College entrance. FGCU catered all meals for the cadets which was exceptional quality and enjoyed by the cadets. Additionally, the cadets were given one two hour block pool party with Pizza and fun. The cadets also experienced leadership positions which were changed daily allowing all cadets to have a leadership position throughout the four days.
