Well-substantiated and convincing evaluation. • Level 4: Shows a good understanding of the differing historical interpretations raised by the question in their historical context. There is some good evaluation although not all comments are substantiated or convincing. • Level 3: Shows an understanding of differing historical interpretations raised by the question in their historical context. There is some supported comment but they are limited in depth and/or substantiation by OK.

  5. So when researching what do I need to do? • Make sure you note who the author is and when they are writing – look at the books date of first publication. • Two briefly research the author (look at their online biographies) and see if they have any notable historiographical ‘bias’. • Think about whether you think the time they were writing in may have affected their views.
