Complete each statement below with one of your vocabulary words. • Jim rolling the number is a(n) _______. • Rolling a 4 is a possible __________> • Rolling a number less than 3 is an example of a(n) ___________. • The probability that Jim will roll a 9 is ______________ • The probability that Jim will roll a sum of less than 7 is ______________.

  4. Practice • Remember: The probabilities of all outcomes in a sample space add up to 1. Example 1: The basketball team has a 70% chance of winning. Find P(winning). Find P(losing).

  5. Practice A spinner has 8 sections; 3 are red, 3 are blue and 2 are yellow. Find P(red) Find P(blue) Find P(yellow)

  6. Practice To find the probability of an event, add the probabilities of all the outcomes included in the event. Example: A quiz contains 5 true false questions. Suppose you guess randomly on the 5 questions. The table below gives the probability for each score. (+0, +1, +2, etc) Score 0 1 2 3 4 5 Prob. 0.031 0.156 0.313 0.313 0.156 0.031 1) Find the probability of guessing 3 or more correct.

  7. Practice 2) Find the probability of guessing fewer than 2 correct. 3) What is the probability of getting 100% on the quiz? 4) What is the probability of guessing 2 or more correct?

  8. Practice Four students are in the Spelling Bee. Fred’s probability of winning is 0.6. Wynn’s chances are one-third of Fred’s. Betty’s and Bill’s chances are the same. Create a table of probabilities for the sample space.
