  8. The School Uniform

  9. Britney Spears Uuuuuuuuuuuuuh, I really love her. Great Britain is the birthplace of the school uniform. Over the years schoolboys and schoolgirlshave worn a wide variety of official school dress. The most famous school uniformas you all know was worn by: Oh, excuse me, I have to go.

  10. This is a traditional uniform. It can be red, blue, black..... School uniforms show everybodyto which school a pupil goes. Every school has it‘s own uniform.

  11. For example the Bluecoat This is a typical state school uniform. The school uniforms in private schoolsare mostly designed according to the type of school. Boys at Christ‘s Hospital Schoolin Sussex wear a traditionalbluecoat uniform which dates backto Tudor times.

  12. The dress uniform of Gordonstoun Schoolboysdates from the Victorian era. Do you know who visited this school? A number of British schools were originally foundedto educate the children of serving soldiers and sailors,or to prepare boys for the armed forces.

  13. So, private schools have special uniforms. But what is a private school?

  14. State Schoolvs.Private School

  15. Every British child has to go to school at the age of 5. Their parents can choose betweena state school or a private school. A state school means, their parents don‘t have to pay for their school. So everybody can go to a school,it doesn‘t matter if they are rich or poor. But the rich ones usually send their childrento a private school. So a private school is actually for rich families.

  16. Rugby Harrow In the most prestigious private schools like:

  17. Eton In the most prestigious private schools like: Parents reserve places for their childrenas soon as they are born.

  18. At Harrow School in fact the parents have to pay £6,995 per term. And finally at Eton The fees are very expensive and vary from£600 to £3,200 per term.

  19. That‘s a lot of money.I think I‘ll stay at my state school. But which qualifications can I get? The parents have to pay £22,380 per year.

  20. The British School System

  21. School for a British child starts at the age of 5. The national curriculum makes sure that the samesubjects are studied by the pupils in all the schools. The national curriculum is split into 4 keys. There are some differences betweenEngland, Scotland and Ireland. But we‘ll only talk about the school systemin England. The first key starts at the age of 5and is finished at the age of 7. At this key stage a pupil manages 2 classes.

  22. At the age of 7 key stage 2 starts. Pupils have to pass 4 more classes. Key stage 2 finished at the age of 11. The pupils passed 6 classes. Key stage 1, class 1-2 and key stage 2, class 3-6is called „Primary Education.“

  23. After finishing „Primary Education“ The pupils have finished 2 exams. One at the end of each key stage, which permits parents tochoose a future school for their children. Now parents send their children toa state or a private school. Which is called „Secondary Education“

  24. At the „Secondary Education“ the pupils have to passkey stage 3, class 7-9, age 11-14. After finishing class 9 at the end of key stage 3a pupil can opt for the: G.N.V.Q. General National Vocational Qualification In good old Germany the G.N.V.Q. is called: Hauptschulabschluss

  25. With the G.N.V.Q a pupil is able to learn a job like a: Hairdresser Mechanic Plumber

  26. If a pupil wants to become rich in futureto send his children to a private schoolhe keeps on going to the last key stage number 4. This means class 10-11.From the age of 14 to the age of 16. At the end of key stage 4 the pupils have to managetheir last exam, and have to pass 7 subjects. If they pass their exams, they‘ll get the: G.C.S.E.

  27. And this means in good old German? But I can‘t become rich with theG.C.S.E. G.C.S.E. General Certificate of Secondary Education Mittlere Reife

  28. And this is the „Abitur“? So you still have to keep on goingand make your A Level. A pupil with a G.C.S.E. has to pass two more years. After these 2 years the pupils have to passanother exam in 3 subjects. Then they get their A Level.

  29. Now a pupil can study and try to become rich.

  30. Uuuuh, that‘s a long and hard time.I‘m at the beginning of mycareer, I‘ve started schoolthis year. Now Mr. Schäfer and I will tell yousomething about a typicalschool day in England. So, Mr. Schäfer would you please go on.

  31. You can see, we have more disciplinein England as you in Germany. The pupils arrive at 8:45 am at the playgroundand school starts at 8:55 am. At 8:55 am the duty teacher blows a whistleand the children line up in their classlines. In the classroom the teacherreads out each child’s name in turn.On hearing his/her name, the child replies„Yes Mr./Mrs (teacher's name)“‚and the teacher notes down if the child is inschool or not.

  32. At 9:10 am the children go to assemblyin the main hall. They sit on the floor in rowswith the youngest children at the frontand the older children at the back. As the children enter the hall they listen quietlyto the music playing. Each week has a different musical themeand the children are asked to listenout for particular things. The children listen to a story, sing a song and pray. The story is either taken from the Christian Bibleor is a story with a moral.

  33. The first lesson of the day begins at 9:30 amand lasts for an hour. Morning lessons are usually Literacy (English)or Numeracy (Mathematics) The pupils have their morning break from10:20 - 10:35 am The pupils bring a snack from home toeat in the playgrounds. This snack is usually a packet ofcrisps, fruit or a couple of biscuits. At the end of break time the duty teacherblows a whistle. The children stand still and wait to be toldto line up in their class lines.

  34. Now lesson 2 starts and the pupils have an hourfifteen minutes before lunch time. At this second lesson the pupils keep on goingwith Literacy or Numeracy. Lunch time is from 12 noon to 1:10 pm Most children bring their own packedlunch from home.A packed lunch usually consists of sandwiches, fruit, a drink and a packet of crisps. Some children will have a school dinnercooked in the school kitchen.
