  1. Do You Not Yet Understand? Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? (Mt. 15:17). Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up? (Mt. 16:9).

God Wants Us To Understand 3 how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, 4 by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), 5 which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets (Eph. 3). 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is (Eph. 5).

Some Things Require More Study 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ… (2 Peter 3).

  4. Understand, But Hesitate To Admit It Hesitate Baptism??? Instrumental Music??? Authority of the Pope??? Denominationalism??? Modern Miracles??? Sponsoring Church Evangelism??? Church-sponsored Food & Recreation???

  5. Have No Desire To Understand For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them. (Matt. 13:15: cf. Isa. 6:9-10)

  6. Make No Effort To Understand • Lazy: Let someone study and tell me what to do. • Problem: What if they lie to you? • If understand, feel obligated to obey. • If understand and don’t obey--feel guilty! • Understanding brings responsibility.
