This case study explores the significant deterioration of the outer layer of concrete due to hydrogen sulfide (H2S) exposure on Hilton Head Island. A concrete bench has displayed severe damage, with approximately 1 inch of surface loss. The importance of thorough surface preparation is highlighted, utilizing a high-pressure cleaning technique at 5000 psi and 5 gpm with a 0-degree rotating nozzle. Following cleaning, a ½ inch Quadex Aluminaliner was installed, along with a 100 mil application of Raven 405 to restore functionality and improve durability.
