  2. Deltoid Deltoid ORIGIN • Anterior – lateral 1/3 of the clavicle • Medial – Acromion process • Posterior – lower portion of the spine of the scapula INSERTION • Deltoid Tuberosity FUNCTION • Abducts arm • Flexes arm • Extends arm

  3. Biceps Brachii ORIGIN • Supraglenoid Tubercle of scapula • Coracoid process of scapula INSERTION • Radial Tuberosity FUNCTION • Flexes and supinates arm Biceps Brachii

  4. Brachialis ORIGIN • Anterior Humerus INSERTION • Coronoid process • Tuberosity of ulna FUNCTION • Flexes elbow Brachialis

  5. Flexor Carpi Ulnaris ORIGIN • Medial epicondyle of humerus INSERTION • Pisiform • hook of hamate • base of 5th metacarpal FUNCTION • Flex and adduct wrist • Ulnar deviation Flexor Carpi Ulnaris

  6. Palmaris Longus ORIGIN • Medial Epicondyle of humerus INSERTION • Palmar Aponeurosis FUNCTION • Flex wrist Palmaris Longus

  7. Flexor Carpi Radialis ORIGIN • medial epicondyle of humerus INSERTION • base of the 2nd and 3rd metacarpals FUNCTION • Flexes and abducts wrist Flexor Carpi Radialis

  8. Flexor Digitorum Superficialis ORIGIN • Medial epicondyle of the humerus • Shaft of the radius INSERTION • Both sides of the middle phalynx of the fingers FUNCTION • Flexes the fingers Flexor Digitorum Superficialis

  9. Special Notes • The common origin for the flexors of the wrist is the medial epicondyle of the humerus. • The Palmaris Longus is completely absent in about 8% of the population.

  10. Brachioradialis ORIGIN • Lateral epicondyle of the humerus INSERTION • Styloid process of the radius FUNCTION • Flexes and supinates forearm Brachioradialus

  11. Pollicis Muscles (just know Function) FUNCTION • Adduct, flex, abduct, extend and oppose the thumb Pollicus Muscles

  12. Rotator Cuff Muscles • Supraspinatus (GT) • Infraspinatus (GT) • Subscapularis (LT) • Teres Minor (GT) *** Special note that one function of all the rotator cuff muscles is shoulder stabilization.

  13. Supraspinatus ORIGIN • Supraspinous fossa of the scapula INSERTION • Greater Tuberosity of the humerus FUNCTION • Abducts the arm Supraspinatus

  14. Infraspinatus ORIGIN • Infraspinous fossa of the scapula INSERTION • Greater tuberosity of the humerus FUNCTION • Lateral rotation of the humerus Infraspinatus

  15. Subscapularis ORIGIN • Anterior surface of the scapula INSERTION • Lesser tuberosity of the humerus FUNCTION • Medial rotation of the humerus Subscapularis

  16. Teres Minor ORIGIN • Lateral border of the scapula INSERTION • Greater tuberosity of the humerus FUNCTION • Lateral rotation of the humerus Teres Minor

  17. Teres Major ORIGIN • Lateral border of the scapula INSERTION • Medial lip of the intertubercular groove of the humerus FUNCTION • Extends, adducts and medially rotates the humerus “swimming motion” Teres Major

  18. Triceps Brachii ORIGIN • Infraglenoid tubercle of the humerus • Lateral and medial surfaces of humerus INSERTION • Olecranon process of the ulna FUNCTION • Extends the elbow Triceps Brachii

  19. Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus ORIGIN • Lateral epicondyle of the humerus INSERTION • Base of the 2rd metacarpal FUNCTION • Extends and abducts wrist • Radial deviation Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus

  20. Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis ORIGIN • Lateral epicondyle of the humerus INSERTION • base of the 3rd metacarpal FUNCTION • Extends and abducts wrist • Radial deviation Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis

  21. Extensor Digitorum Communis ORIGIN • Lateral epicondyle of the humerus INSERTION • Posterior surfaces of fingers 2-5 FUNCTION • Extends fingers and wrist Extensor Digitorum Communis

  22. Extensor Carpi Ulnaris ORIGIN • Lateral epicondyle of the humerus INSERTION • Base of the 5th metacarpal FUNCTION • Extends and adducts the wrist • Ulnar deviation Extensor Carpi Ulnaris

  23. Rhomboid Major ORIGIN • Spinous process of T2 – T5 INSERTION • Medial border of the scapula FUNCTION • Scapula retraction

  24. Rhomboid Minor ORIGIN • Spinous process of C7-T1 INSERTION • Medial border of the scapula FUNCTION • Retracts the scapula
