  3. Middle School Themes/Trends • PEERS become more important than adults • Greater FREEDOM but more RESPONSIBILITY • From CONCRETE to ABSTRACT thinking • The search for IDENTITY

  4. Yesterday I discovered that I am a cartoon character. I was up all night trying to decide whether I am the lines or the spaces in between.

  5. What’s Different • Many classrooms and no homeroom • Using LOCKERS and taking materials to class • Using MOODLE as a resource and tool • Later lunch time!

  6. Middle School Initiatives • Its own space, staff, and supervisor • Classrooms by subject/teacher not class • Laptops in all classrooms • IXL Math and Scholastic Reading Counts • Advisory Class every week
