A typical day in Primary 7 Registration/Morning starter task Maths – Mental agility, concept teaching, written & practical activities Break Milk & Newsround or class novel Language – Reading & comprehension tasks/activities Lunch Interdisciplinary topic – Citizen 7 and The Scottish Parliament Extension activities: Challenge tasks – Varying levels

  8. Reading • Closely monitored to ensure appropriate to ability/to provide challenge • Additional reading – comics, magazines, books from home/mobile library • Parents/Carers and pupils are encouraged to read together and share texts at home.

  9. Marking and feedback • Verbal feedback 1-1 basis • Verbal feedback whilst working • Written feedback in jotters • 2 stars and a wish/tickled pink and green for growth • Self and peer assessment/evaluation • Traffic light assessment

  10. Homework Monday - Friday • Maths: will vary and change each week and include a range of mental, written, practical tasks and problem solving. We also will be using Sumdog challenges to support mental agility. • Language: Reading/writing/spelling/talking & listening tasks • Interdisciplinary topic • Home learning challenges

  12. Leadership opportunities • Head Boy and Girl… Pupils have been asked to complete an application form. From this, staff will help select 5 girls and 5 boys. These 10 pupils will go through an interview process with Mrs Hollands, Miss Noble, a parent representative from the PSA and two parent representatives from the Parent Council. The candidates will deliver a 2 minute speech as well as take part in a group interview. Interview date: Friday 9th September

  13. Leadership opportunities • House Captains (2 per house) Pupils have been asked to complete an application form. From this P6 and P7 pupils will vote to decide on the final candidates for each house. After this the candidates will run campaign groups. This will involve promoting candidates in a creative and fun way. Children in the school will then be invited to listen to a presentation from their house candidates and vote for who they would like to chair their house!

  14. Mindset-the psychology of learning“I can’t do it…yet!” ‘Fixed’ Mindset ‘Growth’ Mindset Abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. Brains and talent are just the starting point. Learning to learn: children should understand how they learn, including the ‘brainology’ of it. (Carol Dweck). teachers encourage students to believe that they can learn more and become smarter if they work hard and practice. “You must have worked very hard’. • Having a ‘fixed’ mindset can limit learning. Believing you are either ‘smart’ at something or that you are not good at it and that failing just proves this. • “You are smart”.

  15. iPayimpact • The iPayimpact online payment system offers parents and carers a flexible way to make payments online. • By making cashless payments online, you know that your money has reached the school safely. • You can view your account statement and payment history and check when payments need to be made. You can also look at the lunch menu online and order your child’s lunch in advance. • Cashless payments help the school be more efficient as administration time in the office is reduced. • It would be really helpful to the school if you are able to use this system at home.
