  1. VIEWS Facts and Statistics • Provides integrated online access to: • Monitoringdata: from over 3 dozen networks • Modeling data: from a variety of modeling scenarios • Emissions data: inventories and summaries • Satellite data: MODIS, CALIPSO, Aqua, Terra, GOES, etc. • Serves as the primary source for: • IMPROVE Aerosol and Optical data • IMPROVE Regional Haze Rule data • IMPROVE Special Studies data • Has about 1200 registered users from over 300 organizations, institutions, universities, and companies • An average of about 250 unique database queries per month, ranging from around 175 to as high as 350

  2. Unique VIEWS visitors per month (Google Analytics)

  3. VIEWS Update • Adding satellite data to VIEWS/TSS (NASA ROSES 2007) • Submitting a ROSES 2008 proposal: Exceptional Event Analysis (Husar) • Submitting a ROSES 2008 proposal: Adding NAAPS data to VIEWS/TSS (Westphal) • Adding two new team members • Software developer (starts 10/27/2008) • Data analyst (starts 1/2/2009) • Launching a new version of the VIEWS website in Q4 2008 • Upgraded server hardware • Some new tools • Refinements and bug fixes • New look and feel • Adding EPA Ozone data and new analysis tools • Participating in the GEO/GEOSS Architecture Pilot to increase interoperability with other air quality data systems

  4. NASA ROSES 2007: Recent Activities • Conducted a project design workshop (May 12-13, 2008 - CIRA) • Discussed and refined project scope • Created a project steering committee composed of end user representatives • Created a “wiki” website for project communications and document-sharing • http://vista.cira.colostate.edu/AirDataWiki/ROSES2007.ashx • Participated in the EPA’s Air Quality Data Summit (February 2008, RTP) • Presented an overview of the VIEWS/TSS decision support system • Explored parallel efforts being conducted by other organizations • Suggested best practices for air quality data exchange and decision support • Attended the GEOSS Architecture Implementation Workshop (NCAR) • Presented an overview of VIEWS/TSS and the NASA ROSES project • Determined the GEOSS architectural standards to be implemented for future interoperability with other air quality data- and decision-support systems • Investigated the available and relevant satellite data and products to be integrated into VIEWS/TSS

  5. NASA ROSES 2007: Targeted Datasets • Vertically-resolved aerosol extinction (CALIPSO/CALIOP) • Cloud heights, winds, albedos, bidirectional reflectance, tropospheric AOD, PM2.5 composition and size (Terra/MISR) • Total Aerosol Optical Depth at 500nm (GOES/GASP) • Column NO2 (Aura/OMI) • Total Aerosol Optical Depth (Terra/MODIS and Aqua/MODIS)

  6. VIEWS 2.0: New Query Wizard

  7. VIEWS 2.0 New Metadata Browser

  8. VIEWS 2.0: IMPROVE Data Advisories IMPROVE Data Advisories document interesting findings from the IMPROVE database such as data anomalies, potential problems, and new uses for the IMPROVE data. These advisories are stored as metadata in the VIEWS database and dynamically associated with data and products. When a user selects data, the systems checks for any advisories relevant to the data selected and attaches them to the output.
