Subjects and Predicates. Every sentence has a subject and predicate. Subject. The subject tells whom or what the sentence is about. Little Miss Muffett sat on a tuffett. Predicate. The predicate tells what the subject is or does. Little Miss Muffett sat on a tuffett.

  2. Subject The subject tells whom or what the sentence is about. Little Miss Muffettsat on a tuffett.

  3. Predicate The predicate tells what the subject is or does. Little Miss Muffett sat on a tuffett.

  4. Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout would not take the garbage out! Subject: Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Predicate: would not take the garbage out! Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Subject: Humpty Dumpty Predicate: sat on a wall.

  5. The cow jumped over the moon. Subject: The cow Predicate: jumped over the moon. The little dog laughed to see such sport. Subject: The little dog Predicate: laughed to see such sport.

  6. She sells seashells by the seashore. Subject: She Predicate: sells seashells by the seashore. Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. Subject: Peter Piper Predicate: picked a peck of pickled peppers.

  7. Little Jack Horner sat in the corner. Subject: Little Jack Horner Predicate: sat in the corner. Jack jumped over the candlestick. Subject: Jack Predicate: Jumped over the candlestick.

  8. Jack and Jill went up the hill. Subject: Jack and Jill Predicate: went up the hill. Jack fell down. Subject: Jack Predicate: fell down.

  9. Little Bo-peep has lost her sheep. Subject: Little Bo-peep Predicate: has lost her sheep. Mary had a little lamb. Subject: Mary Predicate: had a little lamb.
