  2. Christmas markets It’s well known that Germany has one of the worlds best Christmas markets in the world. The items that they sell are mostly: • Nutcrackers • Gingerbread based edible things • Decorations for a Christmas tree • And sweets to put in stockings or to give to others.

  3. The Christmas trees The Germans love big Christmas trees and normally place them in big towns or cities and decorate them with lights and a big star on top. They mostly get the trees from Norway as they are easy to grow there and they normally grow bigger there.

  4. Saint Nicolas In German speaking countries, such as Holland and Germany, It’s not Santa Claus who delivers Christmas presents, but St Nicholas. St Nicholas was a real person, a bishop of the church who lived in what is now Turkey in the fourth century. He was: • Deeply devout • Became a patron saint • Celebrated on the 6th of December • Have you ever asked your self: Why does Santa go down a chimney, why do you never see him and why we have stockings? This story has the answers!

Food The foods they have in Germany and the other German speaking countries eat things like: Stolen, which is a cake based snack Cake, which everyone eats Sweets and chocolates, we eat these as well but the chocolates are more delicate. Ginger bread, which is yummy and Candy canes, they rule! And lots of other lovely snacks as well but I just can’t fit it in.

  6. Reefs In Germany they do not hang reefs outside but they hang them inside instead. They usually put candles and ribbon on them and light a different candle each week on a Sunday, the last candle they light is lit on Christmas day.

  7. Christmas crackers Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas with out the Christmas crackers. We get to open Christmas crackers when ever we want but in Germany they have to wait till Christmas eve (24th December) to open there Christmas crackers.

  8. Christmas facts Did you know that it some parts of Germany it is the law to shovel the snow on your part of the path. The biggest Christmas market in Germany is in Berlin the capital of Germany. Children put there shoes outside there doors on the 5th of December so in the night St Nicolas will put small things in there shoes if they had been good this year.
