  1. Prison Rape Elimination Act Prevention, detection, response, and monitoring of sexual abuse and sexual harassment OJA Board Meeting 5/10/13

PREA Update • PREA Coordinator • PREA Compliance Managers at COJC and SOJC • Established taskforce to include personnel from multiple areas of OJA • Utilizing PREA Toolkit for Juvenile Facilities to assess for compliance and non-compliance within Administrative Rules, Policies and Procedures • Beginning process of creating new rules, policies, procedures and adding language where necessary

  3. PREA Update • Currently identifying training needs and developing PREA training that meets the requirements of the standards • OJA investigators attended a required PREA specialized training for investigators on April 24th

  4. PREA Update • Begin to educate Detention centers and Group homes about PREA • Include PREA compliance contract language in the detention center and group home contracts • Establish work-groups amongst the detention centers and group homes to begin the process of assisting these facilities with becoming compliant via updated OJA policies and procedures pertaining to PREA and via training materials • Met with Detention Operators on April 18th and provided a PREA training overview • Meeting is scheduled with the Group Home Operators on May 30th to provide them a PREA training overview.

  5. PREA Update • Develop plan for the facilities that will be audited the first year (1/3 of the facilities) of the three year audit cycle • ACA has adopted the PREA standards and are having some of their auditors attend the PREA auditor certification training this summer

  6. PREA Update • Met with Atty. Rebecca Frazier with the Governor’s office on May 2nd. • We will be providing the Governor’s office a summary on June 11, 2013 outlining OJA’s status of compliance with the PREA standards • OJA will be attending the PREA Audit Tool training May 22nd-May 23rd • It is expected that the final juvenile version of the audit tool will be available this summer
